Sears garage door does not close in cold weather, below 25F.
My Sears garage door does not close at low temperatures, below 25F.It works
normally at above 25F. When l use the remote control the door closes for a
second and then backs off. l have to keep the wall unit button pressed
until the door closes. The unit does not work even when the door unit is
disconnected.The safety eye is not a problem, since it works at higher
temperatures.The system is well lubricated and maintained. Any suggestions?
Those door closers have a safety feature that stops them if the
encounter too much resistance. That keeps the door from tearing itself up
or injuring someone in the way when it closes.
The cold temps are probably causing the lubrication to thicken & that
change is enough to trip the safety. You might try a lighter lubricant to
fix the problem. Some door closers have adjustments for the amount of pressure they will exert before tripping the safety. Be careful if you adjust that though. You don't want to defeat it completely.

You will have to increase the force open or close dial. Is the
opener new or old? Mine is older and thus becoming weaker. I have had to
put more tension on the springs on the garage door.
